Happy Friday, everyone. Based on the below, it’s clear that nobody told Ben Flanagan that Gump Day falls on a Wednesday.
Indiana undefeated? They struggled against Ohio State! And that was 12 games after
the Buckeyes eked out a close one to a talented but flawed Texas team in the season opener.
Alabama already beat Georgia once. Arizona State nipped Texas Tech. Texas A&M needed a miraculous comeback against South Carolina before Texas beat them. Miami lost to Louisville and SMU.
The point is, there is no one dominant team in college football. Everyone can get got. It wasn’t long ago when Alabama was maybe the best team in the country, but they could beat anybody who lined up against them. Will they find that spark again?
I’ll allow it.
The 2026 football schedule dropped yesterday, and it’s just as murderous as you’d expect a nine game SEC slate to be. Check out this October.
Alabama faces a tough stretch in the middle of October.
The Crimson Tide will host Georgia on Oct. 10 before traveling to Knoxville for its annual “Third Saturday in October” date with Tennessee. Alabama will return home Oct. 24 for its first home date against Texas A&M since 2022.
Teams change a good bit year over year, but those three teams have gone a combined 31-6 in 2025. And Tennessee had four of the losses, going 8-4. Georgia was 12-1 and Texas A&M was 11-1. Those are two College Football Playoff teams and one that was in the playoff a season ago.
After that three week stretch, you have a bye week followed by road trips to LSU and Vandy. Now, Vandy may not be quite as challenging with Diego Pavia gone next season. His improvisational and running abilities have made that offense so tough to handle.
The future is bright in Tuscaloosa based on the SEC All-Freshman list.
Alabama football is tied for the most representatives on the 2025 SEC All-Freshman football team.
Four Crimson Tide players made the team: tight end Kaleb Edwards, offensive lineman Michael Carroll, defensive lineman London Simmons and cornerback Dijon Lee Jr. Tennessee also had four freshmen make the team.
Matt Scalici looked at the state of the current relationship between Kalen DeBoer and the Alabama fanbase.
To say that Year Two has had its ups and downs is an understatement. Alabama boasts arguably the best collection of wins in college football and arguably the worst loss of any team in the College Football Playoffs. They earned the top seed in the SEC Championship Game only to suffer one of the most one-sided beatdowns in modern Alabama Football history. Despite all that, DeBoer has returned the program to the playoffs and has an opportunity to send Year Two out on a positive and hopeful note.
He also has the opportunity to deal what could be a massive blow to his fledgling relationship with Alabama. Losing twice to an Oklahoma team that barely even bothers to field an offense would be humiliating, disappointing, and hard for Alabama fans to excuse.
Last, there is no indication that Kalen wants to go to Michigan, but if he does then he may be interviewing against one Tommy Rees.
Michigan is interested in Cleveland Browns offensive coordinator Tommy Rees for its head coach vacancy to replace Sherrone Moore, Cleveland.com’s Mary Kay Cabot reported. Rees previously served as the offensive coordinator at his alma mater, Notre Dame, and Alabama before joining the Browns.
Rees’ name has come up a few times this coaching cycle, including in connection with the Penn State vacancy. Cleveland.com reported he interviewed for the position before the Nittany Lions ultimately hired Matt Campbell from Iowa State.
Rees, an Illinois native, also appeared on On3’s Pete Nakos’ Michigan Hot Board after Moore’s dismissal this week. He joined the Browns’ staff in 2024 as pass game coordinator and tight ends coach before becoming offensive coordinator this season. Cleveland is currently getting ready to take on the Chicago Bears on Sunday.
Rees is probably more the type of candidate that they can realistically land in the current, chaotic, environment up there.
That’s about it for today. Have a great weekend.
Roll Tide.
