Tyson Fury spent a few minutes catching up with iFL TV about this weekend’s Netflix card featuring him returning in a heavyweight bout against Arslanbek Makhmudov. Here, Fury would share his perspective on his mindset heading into the fight, the potential for a long-awaited showdown against Anthony Joshua, and what he thought of Derek Chisora vs Deontay Wilder. Fury on his thoughts on facing Makhmudov
“I’ve seen his fight with Dave Allen, 12 round good fight. Dave’s obviously a very tough guy,
he’s fought everybody…I’ve seen every [one of Makhmudov’s fights] that was of any importance…He’s definitely a dangerous f-cker, yeah. He’s got 19 knockouts within the first three rounds of his 20-odd fight career. He was once ranked #1 in the WBC and I was supposed to fight him in 2023 and then the fight come up and it never happened. So it’s happening now, three years later each.
“I don’t underestimate no man…Whoever gets in there, they’re all tough, they’re all coming in there for victory. They’re all difficult men…I’m anticipating a tough man but it’s just unfortunate for him he’s got to go up against a legend in myself — a living legend.”
On reports of him facing Anthony Joshua later this year
“I’ve heard about it but it’s all pie in the sky. I’ve also heard reports of fighting in America, and I’ve also heard reports of fighting in London. I’ve heard so many reports, I’m doing everything — everything you can think of, I’m supposed to be doing.
“If it happens, good. If it doesn’t happen, also good.”
On the Chisora vs Wilder fight
“Sad to see. I don’t know about everybody else, but for me it was sad state of an affair. Two good fighters from the past, both looking shot to bits, both old, both need to forget about it. It’s a young man’s game. Forget about boxing for them, 42 and 40 year old.”
