The Wisconsin Badgers continued to add to their offensive line with the transfer portal addition of Florida State offensive tackle Lucas Simmons, who committed to the program on Wednesday.
Simmons, who
stands a towering 6’8, 310 pounds, was mainly a reserve and a special-teamer in 2025 for Florida State, playing 81 total offensive snaps. He was a redshirt sophomore this past season and will have two years of eligibility left.
A four-star and the No. 61 overall recruit in the Class of 2023, Simmons was highly-regarded coming out of high school as a top-10 offensive tackle in his class. He had also been receiving interest from schools like Georgia Tech and Mississippi State in the transfer portal before committing to Wisconsin.
Although he hasn’t seen the field much through three seasons at Florida State, Simmons could be in the mix for the open right tackle competition this offseason, with Emerson Mandell potentially sliding back to guard, where he began the 2025 season. Riley Mahlman is heading to the NFL, and Kevin Heywood is back to start at left tackle after a torn ACL wiped out his 2025 season.
Wisconsin is still looking to add at offensive line in the transfer portal, but Simmons fits the mold of players with multiple years of eligibility, coming to Madison with two years left.
He’s the third offensive line commit for new coach Eric Mateos, joining Oklahoma State transfer center Austin Kawecki and Arkansas freshman transfer Blake Cherry.
