The Dallas Cowboys may or may not be getting cornerback DaRon Bland back as soon as Sunday’s game against the Chicago Bears. What’s more is rookie Shavon Revel could make his debut soon, too.
Jerry Jones spoke Tuesday morning on 105.3 The Fan
and addressed both of these matters. As it relates to Bland specifically, it is worth mentioning that Jerry somewhat contradicted what Stephen Jones said on Monday. The Cowboys secondary was among their bigger issues last week against the New York Giants and it is fair to say that Bland’s absence was partly responsible. Dallas recently extended Bland and clearly feel confident in him. Hopefully Jerry is correct in that Bland will be on the field in Chicago (the Bears will notably be without Jaylon Johnson by the way).
Regarding rookie Shavon Revel, he has been on the NFI list given that his injury last year occurred while he was in college and not a part of the NFL. Jerry said in his interview that his absence seems to be lining up with that designation which, as the mothership’s Tommy Yarrish notes, suggests Revel could be available as soon as Week 5 when Dallas visits the New York Jets.
During the interview Jerry was asked specifically about Stephon Gilmore being a candidate for the team to bring in. He chose to say that help was on the way for the defense and made specific mention to that help being internal before he offered perspective on Revel.
Once the secondary features Trevon Diggs, DaRon Bland, and Shavon Revel on a consistent basis then things will likely stabilize. It is just a matter of making it to that point.
