TrillerTV+, 10:00 pm ET, CountryBox: Where Music Meets Boxing. From the Plaza Mariachi in Nashville, Tennessee. Does it still feel wrong for CountryBox: Where Music Meets Boxing to be somewhere besides the Texas Troubadour? Yes, obviously, and forever. BUT… This is a fitting venue for a Cinco de Mayo show, at least. For the first time I know of, there’s no specific artist mentioned to represent the Music! But, there is a photo of a mariachi band on the promo poster. Will CountryBox: Where Music Meets Boxing go
full MariachiBox: Where Música Meets Boxeo? Let’s not jump to conclusions, and instead just assume this week’s musical accompaniment will be the equivalent of a blind date setup between Music and Boxing. Muy emocionante y misterioso!
Wednesday, May 6th
Kayo Sports (AUS), Amazon Prime? (USA), 3:00 am ET, Nikita Tszyu vs Oscar Diaz. From Newcastle, Australia. Tszyu fights for the first time since a no contest against Michael Zerafa back in January, while Diaz fights for the first time as a pro outside of his native Spain. Good support fight here between Callum Peters and Joeshon James. Further down the card, Tonga Tongotongo takes on Jack Bowen. There’s a chance this will stream in the US on Amazon Prime, but it isn’t listed there yet.
Saturday, May 9th
DAZN, 2:00 am ET, Dream Boxing. From Phuket, Thailand. Your main event here is Magomed Kurbanov vs Tonghui Li. Not listed on BoxRec at this point, and no word on any specific support fights.
DAZN PPV, 1:00 pm ET, Fabio Wardley vs Daniel Dubois. From Manchester, England. For Wardley’s WBO heavyweight title. Wardley won the WBO belt with an 11th round TKO against Joe Parker back in October. Dubois is the former IBF heavyweight champ. Dubois has proven himself championship caliber, other than against Oleksandr Usyk (like everyone else that’s fought Usyk as a pro) or when his eye socket was broken. Wardley’s big win over Parker makes me believe there might be more to him than his draw with Frazier Clarke suggested. Decent undercard, too, with Jack Rafferty vs Ekow Essuman and David Morrell vs Zak Chelli. Bakhodir Jalolov also shows to have a fight against Agron Smakici, a Croatian with a club level record outside of his losses to Agit Kabayel and Zhan Kossobutskiy. BLH will have live updates
DAZN, 8:00 pm ET, Angelo Leo vs Ra’eese Aleem. From College Park, Georgia. For Leo’s IBF featherweight title. Nice matchup here between two men with one professional blemish apiece. Leo lost a decision to Stephen Fulton five years ago, while Aleem lost a split decision to Sam Goodman in June of 2023. It’s a very good main event, which is fortunate since the undercard lacks anything of note. But, it’s still early days for Manny Pacquiao promotions, and perhaps the roster will fill out as time goes by. BLH will have live updates
RedneckBrawl.TV, 8:00 pm ET, Redneck Brawl 13: Hillbilly Invasion! From Knoxville, Tennessee. If you’re a BLH regular, you know this show is amazing. If you’re new here? I sincerely love this event, and I strongly encourage you to give it a shot. The Smokey Twins rematch the Doner Twins! Brawl legend Jug returns to take on Big Daddy T, a 400 lbs. crowdpleaser with shockingly good cardiovascular fitness. A woman with blue hair fights a woman with red hair! Chicken-obsessed Walker Dog returns despite getting so drunk on the eve of a previous fight that he couldn’t pass the medical exam! A guy with four kids fights a guy with five kids! Did you like the guy who punched himself in the face 16 times during his hype video? Then, you’ll love the new guy that bashed himself repeatedly in the head with a frying pan and the dude that right angled a cookie sheet on his own forehead AND the guy that punched his way through a car windshield! Benzo Brandy! The Tackle Box Tyrant! What the heck else could you possibly want for $22.99??? BLH will be skipping a Mother’s Day eve gathering at their in-laws to provide live updates, because they already missed one for their wife’s milestone birthday, and even true love has limits when Redneck Brawl is involved.
Sunday, May 10th
Paramount+, 5:30 pm ET, Zuffa Boxing 6. From underneath Dana White’s grown-up gym class parachute in Las Vegas, Nevada. Solid show, with Shane Mosley Jr vs Serhii Bohachuk at the top of the card, and a matchup of undefeated middleweights in Andreas Katzourakis vs Misael Rodriguez. Will I be seduced into another edition of Zuffa by the presence of a Greek middleweight contender? Not on practice night, when Whirlyball nationals is just seven weeks away. But, there’s enough going on here that BLH may have live updates.
