Former Arkansas wide receiver Ja’Kayden Ferguson has committed to Kentucky Football following his visit to Lexington over the weekend. It marks Kentucky’s second transfer addition at the position during
this portal cycle and feels more like a return than a new arrival for those who closely follow recruiting.
Ferguson was originally committed to Kentucky during the 2025 recruiting cycle after an official visit to Lexington in June of 2024.
Five months later, his recruitment reopened, and he ultimately flipped to Arkansas. He finished the 2025 class as a 4-star prospect at Rivals who was ranked 53rd among wide receivers and 51st in the state of Texas.
After one season in Fayetteville with the Razorbacks, Ferguson is back with the program that first earned his commitment, but with a new staff, of course.
The 6-foot-2 receiver out of the Metro Houston area appeared in six games as a true freshman for the Razorbacks, seeing limited action and logging just 20 offensive snaps and 32 special teams snaps while burning his redshirt, so he’s got three seasons of playing eligibility left. His role never fully developed in Fayetteville, but Kentucky clearly sees long-term upside.
As the portal window winds down, Kentucky continues to reshape its roster with an emphasis on depth and competition. Ferguson’s return to Lexington offers a fresh start and a second opportunity to make an impact as he looks to establish himself in the SEC.
