The Miami Dolphins shocked their fanbase last Thursday when they selected Alabama offensive lineman Kadyn Proctor with the twelfth pick in the 2026 NFL Draft after trading back one spot with the Dallas Cowboys — passing on two fan favorites, Caleb Downs and Reuben Bain Jr., in the process.
While many of Miami’s fans were left stunned after the pick, apparently front offices around the National Football League were not, as they viewed Proctor as one of the best players in the entire draft. Don’t believe
me? Well, I’ll let former stud left tackle of the Dolphins, Terron Armstead, try and convince you.
Speaking on his podcast, The Set, Armstead had this to say about the Dolphins’ selection of Proctor:
“You cannot, for one second, undervalue quality, high-level offensive linemen. You can’t have too many… You have to bring in top talent — elite talent, elite ability — guys that are willing to come in and make a difference. Kadyn Proctor gives you that. His potential, his ceiling is through the roof… I’ve known Kadyn for four years now.. I’ve watched him mature. I’ve watched him grow. I’ve watched his technique develop over time. It’s only going to improve — only going to get better.
Armstead would go on to say that he heard from multiple offensive line coaches in the NFL who said they wanted Proctor on their team:
“I had gotten texts from three different head o-line coaches in the NFL about Kadyn Proctor — that they wanted him in their building… So, if the Dolphins didn’t take him at 12, he was gone in the next couple picks. No doubt about it… It went so far that one of the o-line coaches texted me after the draft pissed that he did not get Kadyn Proctor. So, take that, do with that what you please, but this was a guy that was highly sought after.”
Armstead would go on to say that Proctor was one of his top three favorite offensive linemen in the entire draft — naming Utah’s Spencer Fano (who went to Cleveland at #9) and Arizona State’s Max Iheanachor (who went to Pittsburgh at #21) as the other two.
