Week 8 of the NFL season concluded with 15 Maryland football alumni seeing the field.
Rookie safety Jalen Huskey saw an increased role in the Jacksonville Jaguars’ 42-10 win over the Indianapolis Colts.
In the blowout victory, the third-round pick recorded a 10-yard sack of Daniel Jones and made three tackles. It was his first career stats in both categories, as Huskey has been a healthy inactive scratch for five out of his first six games.
The only other game the 23-year-old has appeared in was Week
6 against the Houston Texans, where he played three special teams snaps. Sunday, although the Jaguars pulled their starters late, Huskey played 24 snaps.
He spent just six plays on special teams. Eleven total were played in the box, and additional time occurred at free safety.
Jacksonville is now 5-2 and first in the AFC South. With the team projected as a top seed in the postseason, Huskey’s role could be primarily on special teams. However, the Frederick, Maryland, native was able to take advantage of his first professional snaps on defense.
The Jaguars travel to play the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday at 8:15 p.m. ET on Prime.
