Late last week, after a long and winding search, the Colorado Rockies finally hired their new head of baseball operations, Paul DePodesta.
He joins the Rockies as their president of baseball operations, and it was a move that took everyone by surprise. In immediate wake of the news, we asked our fans to grade the move.
So far, fans appear cautiously optimistic.
The majority of fans gave the hire a “B” or “C,” saying they approved of the move immediately but are still cautious as to the direction of the franchise. Also, the hire of DePodesta is definitely external with no connections to the Rockies, but it’s still a very “Rockies” hire in that DePodesta has been out of MLB for 10 years and was super relevant about 20 years ago with the “Moneyball” A’s.
The general manager meetings are this week, so we will get our first look at DePodesta’s vision.
He is also expected to hire a GM to work underneath him, and hopefully we’ll soon have answers on the manager as well.
What are your thoughts? Do you agree with the overall grades? Let us know!
