Coach K is retired obviously but he still keeps up with the sport he dominated and does interviews fairly often to discuss the state of the game.
In this appearance on Westwood One with Josh Graham, he
talks about the death of amateurism, the need for transparency and alludes to one of his all-time concerns, the lack of leadership in basketball. He’s probably a bit old for the role on a full-time basis ,but we’ve always thought that if the college game needed a commissioner, Coach K would be perfect for the job. He also says to leave the NCAA tournament alone.
In the second clip, K turns to UNC. As he so often does, he identifies someone he respects as a great friend, and in this case it’s Ol’ Roy Williams. And for the people who are lining up on Team Renovation when it comes to UNC’s arena issues, it must be strange to get a tacit endorsement from Krzyzewski, who says Williams’ voice must be respected since he knew Smith best.
He also plugs for any new arena to still be named the Smith Center.
It’s not our fight but for what it’s worth, Team Renovation seems to be blowing Team UNC North out of the water.
