The No. 11/10
(AP/Coaches) Nebraska men’s basketball team begins postseason play Friday evening, as the Huskers head to the United Center in Chicago for the 2026 Big Ten Tournament. As the No. 2 seed, the Huskers will play No. 7 seed Purdue in the quarterfinals at 5:30 p.m. The game will be televised on BTN, broadcast on the Huskers Radio Network, as well as on Huskers.com and on the official Huskers app. The game will also be available on the Fox Sports and Fox One apps.
The Huskers (26-5, 15-5 B1G) ended the regular season with an 84-75 overtime win over Iowa Sunday afternoon. Cale Jacobsen scored six of his career-high 15 points in overtime including a go-ahead 3-pointer with 1:30 left to break a 75-all tie, as NU closed the game with a 9-0 run. Pryce Sandfort and Sam Hoiberg had 15 points apiece, while Rienk Mast added 14 points as the Huskers shot 50 percent from the field and the 84 points matched the most points Iowa had given up this season.
The Huskers closed the regular season by winning four of their last five games since the loss at Iowa on Feb. 17 to finish the regular season in a three-way tie for second in the Big Ten standings. The 26 wins have already matched the single-season school record while the runner-up conference finish marked NU’s best conference finish since 1992-93 when it was in the Big Eight.
Jarek’s pre-tipoff thoughts:
This one is where it all starts. Nebraska has a chance to finish the season on a 10-game winning streak…(that requires 3 wins in the B1G and 6 in the NCAA). It’s fun to dream, isn’t it? One game at a time. I’m pretty sure Nebraska isn’t going to start the game the same way the last time we faced Purdue. God knows I’ll be angry if we start the game down 14-1 again. Also, being down 22 in the second half was not ideal.
In the lone meeting, the Huskers really had no business being in that ballgame. The Huskers’ never say die spirit made Purdue rush a little on offense and Nebraska finally started making shots. The fact that Nebraska even had a chance to take the lead with a late free-throw in that game was astonishing and fun to watch. It’s time to wipe the slate clean.
It’s officially win or go home time. The Nebraska B1G revenge tour starts tonight against the Boilermakers, and I for one am all for it. I think the Huskers are more well rested than rusty, so the start should be way better. I think Nebraska can hold serve here and win. Just keep Kaufmann-Renn and Cluff off the boards. Score Prediction: Nebraska 81 Purdue 79
