The Green Bay Packers announced on Saturday that they have placed running back Chris Brooks, who was leading the backfield in snaps this season until his ankle injury, on the injured reserve. The Packers have already backfilled his position on the team with the addition of Pierre Strong Jr., who was brought up from the practice squad earlier this week. Moving forward, the team’s running back rotation will include Strong, MarShawn Lloyd and Kaleb Johnson, at least until Josh Jacobs is done fulfilling
his time on the commisioner exempt list/suspension list. So far, the NFL has yet to move Jacobs off the exempt list, as they are still deciding whether or not to suspend Jacobs and for how long.
With Brooks going on IR, he will miss at least the next four games on the Packers’ schedule. The first game that Brooks is eligible to be activated back to the 53-man roster for will be Week 9 against the New England Patriots.
Green Bay did not make a corresponding roster move, and they currently have an open roster spot on the 53-man roster. Notably, the team started practicing receiver Savion Williams, who is designated to return from the injured reserve, this week. It’s possible that the next move the Packers make for their active roster is bringing Williams up in Week 6.
