This was a big weekend around the NFL, and it brought big news for the Green Bay Packers as well. The league’s biggest stories were its conference championship games, which took place on Sunday and decided
the matchup for Super Bowl LX in Santa Clara two weeks from now.
That game will be a rematch of Super Bowl XLIX, when the New England Patriots defeated the Seattle Seahawks thanks to a last-minute interception by Malcolm Butler. That year should bring back plenty of unhappy memories for Packers fans, of course, as Green Bay controlled the 2014 NFC Championship Game only to collapse late in Seattle and be denied a trip to the big game.
Unfortunately, Davante Adams relived a bit of that postseason failure in Seattle on Sunday night. 2014 was his rookie NFL season, and this weekend he was part of the Los Angeles Rams squad that lost the NFC title game.
For the Packers, however, Sunday also brought big news on the coaching staff. The team is hiring Jonathan Gannon as its new defensive coordinator, replacing the departed Jeff Hafley. Gannon is already a bit of a polarizing hire — he had some great success leading the Philadelphia Eagles’ defense en route to a Super Bowl appearance, but his tenure as the Arizona Cardinals’ head coach was anything but stellar.

In the early game, the Patriots got the only score of the second half — a short field goal — as the game drastically changed thanks to the onset of a major snowstorm. Maye clinched the win for the Patriots with a naked bootleg that picked up a game-sealing first down, a play that he called entirely on his own.
