The Kentucky Wildcats received a huge boost for this season when Otega Oweh announced he was returning for his senior season in late May.
Oweh was Kentucky’s leading scorer on last year’s team, Mark Pope’s first as the Wildcats’ head coach. His ability to get to the basket, seemingly at will, and clutch shot-making ability powered Kentucky to its first Sweet 16 since 2019.
Oweh is in elite company with his return to Kentucky this season, joining seven other Wildcats since 1990 to average 15+ points
per game and then return the following season, according to Wildcats Tongue on Twitter.
The other seven: Jamal Mashburn, Tony Delk, Tayshaun Prince, Keith Bogans, Patrick Patterson, Terrence Jones, and Oscar Tschiebwe.
That’s an elite list, including the 2022 national college player of the year in Tshiebwe.
Delk played with Mark Pope on the 1996 national championship team, while Jones played on Kentucky’s last national championship team in 2012.
The hope is Oweh’s return will spark another special postseason run for Kentucky basketball.
