AUSTIN, Texas — According to a report from Horns247, Texas Longhorns junior linebacker Anthony Hill Jr. suffered a broken bone in his hand during Saturday’s 35-10 loss to the Georgia Bulldogs in Athens.
During Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian’s Monday press conference, he addressed the injuries to Hill and sophomore wide receiver Ryan Wingo.
“We’re making sure that they’re going to be okay. I’m not ready to make that diagnosis. Feel optimistic,” Sarkisian said.
Against the Bulldogs, Hill finished with six tackles (three), a half tackle for loss, and an interception that led to the only touchdown scored by the Longhorns.
The Texas depth chart lists freshman Bo Barnes as the backup to Hill, but if the team’s leading tackler isn’t available in Saturday’s rivalry game against Arkansas in Austin, the Horns are more likely to turn to sophomore Ty’Anthony Smith or redshirt senior Trey Moore. Smith led Texas with nine tackles against Georgia, including two tackles for loss.
“As badly as I want Anthony Hill to play, the guys in our room are good enough to beat anybody in the country. So as much as Ant Hill helps us, we know that it’s a next-guy mentality,” Texas redshirt senior safety Michael Taaffe said on Monday.
