Kentucky Basketball senior guard Otega Oweh didn’t hesitate when asked about the Wildcats’ three-guard lineup featuring himself, senior Denzel Aberdeen, and sophomore Collin Chandler.
In fact, Oweh gave the trio a nickname on the spot following Saturday’s 91-77 win over Vanderbilt.
“Yeah, we’re the three-headed goat. That’s what we’re calling ourselves,” Oweh exclaimed. “But I mean, we definitely are jelling. And I feel like we’re doing a really good job of feeding the hot hand and on top of that capitalizing
because, you know, the hot hand was Collin, but that opened up me and Denzel because they had to respect and play so aggressive with Collin. The lanes opened up for us. So we’re starting to understand that.”
Then, on Saturday inside Rupp Arena, the “three-headed goat” put on a show.
Oweh finished with 23 points on 9-of-16 shooting, adding 4 assists, 2 rebounds, and 2 steals in 34 minutes, which was good for a +8 on the floor. Aberdeen continued his steady leadership with 15 points, knocking down 3 of 7 from deep while adding 4 rebounds, 4 assists, and zero turnovers in 37 minutes (+12). Chandler, the night’s flamethrower, exploded for 23 points on 7-of-10 shooting, drilling 6-of-8 from three with 2 assists and a steal (+7).
The trio powered Kentucky to a 91-77 blowout win over Vanderbilt, a much-needed revenge game after losing to the Commodores earlier this season in Nashville.
Chandler fully embraced Oweh’s new nickname afterward.
“I like it,” Chandler said with a smile. “I think someone should make an AI graphic of it, I would like to see it.”
With March looming, Kentucky may have found its identity and its three-headed engine.
