Fede Valverde had two assists in Real Madrid’s emphatic 5–1 victory over Real Betis, and after the game he praised the team’s early dominance while stressing the need for greater concentration as the match
wore on.
Speaking to Real Madrid TV, the Uruguayan highlighted Madrid’s intensity at the start of the game — and the drop-off that followed.
“We played a very good game,” Valverde said. “The first 30 or 35 minutes of the first half were spectacular. We pressed, played well, and found the spaces. We need to keep improving those final minutes of the first half. We have to maintain the same level of intensity and concentration.”
Valverde admitted that the comfort of the scoreline led to a loss of sharpness.
“We relaxed too much because of the score,” he continued. “They attacked us quite a bit and created chances.”
Despite that self-critique, Valverde was quick to single out the standout performer of the night. Gonzalo García’s perfect hat-trick drew special praise from the captain, who emphasized the striker’s work ethic behind the scenes.
“In the end, we have to congratulate Gonzalo, who had a great day today,” Valverde said. “He deserves it. He always works hard, he’s always there with the whole team, and he never misses a game. Performances like this don’t happen by accident.”
The interview also included a deeply personal moment for Valverde, who shared the emotional impact of walking onto the pitch with his children.
“It makes me want to cry,” Valverde admitted. “It brings me so much joy to go out with my children, for them to see where their father is, where we are playing, and what we are experiencing. It was very special for me.”
Looking ahead, Valverde made it clear that the team’s focus now shifts toward recovery and preparation for the next challenge.
“Now we need to rest, take advantage of the opportunity to catch our breath and regain that energy that is hard to recover after a match,” he said. “Then we’ll face the Super Cup, which is very important.”
