The Portland Trail Blazers have agreed to sign 6-foot-8 guard/forward Caleb Houstan to an Exhibit 10 contract, and he’s expected to join Portland’s G League affiliate Rip City Remix, Joe Freeman of The Oregonian reported Thursday.
Houstan, 23, has appeared in 186 NBA games over the past four seasons. The Orlando Magic drafted Houstan as a one-and-done out of the University of Michigan with the No. 32 pick in the 2022 NBA Draft. He spent his first three seasons with the Magic before playing last season for the Atlanta
Hawks.
Houstan has posted career averages of 3.9 points, 1.4 rebounds, 0.5 assists and 13.4 minutes per game while shooting 37.8% from behind the 3-point line (2.7 attempts per game) and 39.7% from the field (3.2 attempts per game). As that shot diet can attest, Houstan is known primarily for his 3-point shooting. He saw his minutes severely cut last season, dropping from 14.4 minutes per game in Orlando to 4.4 minutes per game during his one season in Atlanta.
Houstan signed an Exhibit 9 contract with the New Orleans Pelicans in August and appeared in two preseason games this month, but he was waived by the franchise on Monday.
