Moses Itauma may already have a fight lined up against Filip Hrgovic on August 29th on DAZN PPV, but that didn’t stop the IBF from ordering his next title fight.
According to The Ring Magazine, IBF wants Itauma to challenge Frank Sanchez for the vacant title that was recently left behind by Oleksandr Usyk, who surrendered all three of his Heavyweight titles (WBA and WBC) being the other two ahead of his retirement fight, which has yet to be confirmed.
Itauma is one of the fastest rising stars in the sport,
racking up an impressive 14-0 record with 12 knockouts (see a couple here and here). More recently, the 21 year-old British brawler retained his WBA International and WBO Inter-Continental Heavyweight titles by defeating Jermaine Franklin via fifth round TKO earlier this year, his tenth straight knockout win.
As for Sanchez, he is fresh of a sizzling destruction of Richard Torrez, stopping him in the second round two months ago in front of the Pyramids of Giza (see it again here). The win improved his record to 26-1 and secured him his 19th stoppage win. A win over Itauma would be a huge resume booster for Sanchez, though we still have to wait and see of Hrgovic doesn’t stun the boxing community before he has the chance to.
There has been a lot of action and movement in the Heavyweight division over the last few months, from epic brawls between aging fighters trying to turn back the hands of time, to potential future super fights being put at risk with unnecessary tune-up fights such as this one and this one.
