The Portland Trail Blazers are in the news almost every day now for changes to their coaching outlook. Today two pieces of news were released regarding the Blazers bench.
First, per Mike Scotto of HoopsHype, Portland is losing Assistant Coach Patrick St. Andrews, a nine-year veteran assistant who has spent time with Atlanta, Memphis, and Milwaukee in addition to the Blazers.
Sources: The Milwaukee Bucks will add Patrick St. Andrews as an assistant coach, reuniting him with coach Taylor Jenkins. He
was an assistant coach for the Blazers. Prior, he was an assistant coach with Jenkins on the Grizzlies and with Mike Budenholzer on the Bucks and Hawks.
Second, Scotto mentions two new potential names in Portland’s search for a new Head Coach: Atlanta Hawks assistant Bryan Bailey and Cleveland Cavaliers assistant Omar Cook.
Quietly, the Trail Blazers also interviewed Hawks assistant coach Bryan Bailey for Portland’s head coaching position, league sources told HoopsHype. Bailey has been an assistant coach for Quin Snyder with the Hawks and the Utah Jazz. He was also an assistant coach for Jazz coach Will Hardy.
Portland also called the Cleveland Cavaliers for permission to speak with assistant coach Omar Cook early in the process, which was believed to be for a possible assistant coaching position, league sources told HoopsHype.
For what it’s worth, Scotto also speculates loosely on potential connections between the Blazers and former Dallas Mavericks coach Jason Kidd, but deems an actual deal unlikely.
