Here’s a fun one: Which of the Green Bay Packers’ units improved (or declined) their standing on the team during training camp? Before training camp, we had you all vote on how you would grade the Packers’ positional groups with an A to F scale, then we calculated the results with a GPA ranking.
Here’s how that turned out:
Fan grades (pre-training camp)
- Safety: 3.89
- Quarterback: 3.26
- Receiver: 2.97
- Tight End: 2.92
- Linebacker: 2.82
- Edge Defender: 2.66
- Running Back: 2.39
- Specialists: 2.23
- Defensive Line: 2.20
- Offensive Line: 2.07
- Cornerback: 1.65
Now that we’re on the other side of cuts, and there’s only one more practice squad position open, what do you think of the Packers’ roster going into the regular season? Personally,
I think the defensive line really stepped up, as Jonathan Ford and Anthony Campbell pushed their way onto the 53-man roster, rookie Chris McClellan looked good and even practice squadder Jaden Crumedy had his moments down the stretch of the preseason. To me, that’s the biggest mover up.
As far as a unit moving down, I think that probably ends up going to running back, as running back Josh Jacobs has been put on the commisioner exempt list and there is no timetable on when he will return to the practice field. Currently, Jacobs is allowed to be in the Packers’ facility during meetings, etc. — and he is, according to head coach Matt LaFleur — but he’s barred from practicing or playing with the team until he’s taken off the list, either because the league has suspended him or has decided to not suspend him.
Who do you think has moved up or down? Let us know in the comments section.
