After one season in Provo, forward Tyler Mrus announced that he is entering the transfer portal. He is the fifth BYU player to enter the portal.
The 6-foot-7 wing transferred to BYU this past offseason after two seasons at Idaho and came to BYU asked to fill a sharpshooter role. Last year at Idaho, Mrus averaged 9.7 points on 73-192 (38%) shooting from three. That shooting never materialized at BYU and Mrus was a non-factor virtually all of Big 12 play. Mrus played in 27 games, averaging 2 points on 14-47
(31%) shooting from distance. His best game was a 15-point performance versus Pacific where he shot 4-4 from three.
BYU didn’t have as much shooting as Kevin Young wanted this season, and Mrus’ inability to hit shots when he had the opportunity to seize playing time after season-ending injuries to Nate Pickens, Brody Kozlowski, Dawson Baker, and Richie Saunders was a miss for the team. Mrus has one year of eligibility remaining.
