By mid-June 2025, it seemed U-19 star Felipe Chávez was on his way out of Bayern Munich. His contract was expiring in two weeks and there was little indication he would sign another one, with fans resigned to losing one of the more promising talents of the academy. But, the day before Chavez’s contract was set to expire, the Bavarians and Claudio Pizarro announced that the Peruvian had renewed his contract.
This was a fairly similar situation. Striker Yll Gashi and right back Vincent Manuba’s contracts
were expiring on June 30, 2026. Bayern were always going to retain Manuba, because the youngster is currently on the road to recovery from a nasty injury and the club never releases an academy player in those conditions. But it seemed, for the longest time, that Gashi was gone. But he showed up in the squad for Bayern U-23’s first friendly of the season and, days later, Bayern announced his and Manuba’s renewal on their official website:
FC Bayern have extended the expiring contracts of Yll Gashi and Vincent Manuba . The 18-year-old striker Gashi signed until June 2028, while the 21-year-old full-back Manuba extended his contract until June 2027. Both will be part of the reserve team’s Regionalliga squad next season.
Michael Wiesinger, Head of Sport and Youth Development: “Vinnie was on the verge of turning professional, but unfortunately he got injured at the end of last season. With this contract extension, we want to give him the security he needs to fully recover and get back to match fitness. Yll has developed well over the past few years, and together we want to further develop his talent and potential. We are very much looking forward to the future with both of them.”
Manuba already made his squad debut under Vincent Kompany, included in the squad against Atalanta Bergamo in the Champions League, after battling to return to fitness from an ACL injury. Manuba’s horror injury luck continued, unfortunately, suffering another injury in the match against FC Nürnberg. He is still working back from that injury.
Gashi, meanwhile, has been one of the many imports from Hertha Berlin in recent years that include Noël Aséko Nkili, Cassiano Kiala, Bastian Assomo and more. Despite the arrival of big striker Noah Codjo-Evora last season, it was Gashi that stepped up to become the team’s top scorer.
