Those in Bayern Munich know Jonas Urbig to be a terrific goalkeeper. Agile, intelligent and an extremely promising talent, Urbig meets every criteria that a Bayern keeper needs. He finally got his much-awaited senior national team debut against Serbia in the Nations League and proved his mettle.
It is incredibly special that Urbig’s first game ended with a clean sheet. A dominating performance by Germany kept Serbia at bay and won them the game 2-0. The keeper was extremely proud of his teammates
and their performance.
“From the first minute to the last, we dominated the opposition. Whenever we lost the ball, we immediately pressed them and won it back,” he said, per @iMiaSanMia.
“For a goalkeeper, keeping a clean sheet is always something special, of course,” he said.
Further, he was asked on whether he had spoken to Manuel Neuer before the game. Urbig revealed that both his Bayern teammates Neuer and Sven Ulreich had reached out before the game.
“Manu and Ulle both texted me before the game, they were happy that I’d make my national team debut and wished me good luck. I was happy about that,” he exclaimed.
It is a proud moment for all Bayern fans to see Urbig get his much-deserved moment. Now we will have to hope he plays more games with the national team.
