After his teammate Benjamin Brahmer chose the Nittany Lions on Saturday, rising fifth-year senior Gabe Burkle also selected the Blue and White as his transfer portal destination.
The 6’6” tight end from Cedar Rapids, Iowa had his first significant action as a redshirt sophomore in 2024, catching 26 passes for 296 yards. 24 of those receptions came in the latter half of the season, including his first career touchdown grab from Rocco Becht in the Pop-Tarts Bowl.
As a redshirt junior, Burkle again had 26 catches, this time for 302 yards and a touchdown against South Dakota State. He was limited to just nine games this season due to injury, with his last game coming on November 9th against TCU.
Burkle will likely be TE3 behind the returning Andrew Rappleyea and the aforementioned Brahmer, though with offensive coordinator Taylor Mouser’s penchant for using tight end, he should be a pretty significant amount of snaps.
