Newcastle United’s search for wingers following Anthony Gordon’s departure is reportedly taking the club to explore deals for former Premier League players, with an English forward emerging as a new potential target.
Although the Magpies have already strengthened multiple areas of Eddie Howe’s squad this summer, including landing a left winger in Bazoumana Toure, Newcastle remains in the market for attacking reinforcements after Gordon’s move to Barcelona.
According to TEAMtalk, Newcastle is monitoring
Bologna winger Jonathan Rowe, although competition for the 23-year-old Norwich City academy product is growing.
The report claims Manchester United, Aston Villa, Everton and Chelsea have all shown interest in the former Premier League winger, with Newcastle already making preliminary checks over a potential move.
“TEAMtalk understands several Premier League clubs have been monitoring the 23-year-old throughout the summer, with Manchester United, Chelsea, Aston Villa and Newcastle United all making enquiries into his situation over recent months,“ the report states.
Rowe only joined the Serie A club from Marseille last summer but quickly became an important part of Bologna’s attack, finishing the campaign with eight goals and four assists in all competitions.
Back in his England days, with Norwich City moving between divisions, Rowe appeared in 13 Premier League games in 2021, assisting on one goal. During his two league campaigns in Marseille and Bologna, Rowe replicated his numbers, putting up three goals and three assists in 28 games played each year.
The report, however, adds that any interested club would likely have to pay a significant fee to convince Bologna to sell, leaving Newcastle to weigh up whether to pursue Rowe or turn its attention to other attacking targets. While no fee is reported, Transfermarkt has Rowe at a market value of €28 million.
