What is the story about?
There’s
a new video out of Duke players scrimmaging , and there are some really interesting moments in this one. As we mentioned before, we recommend hitting the space bar a lot to catch details.
Here are some highlights:
- JoJo Boumtje Boumtje gets the ball and takes it right in on Cameron Williams for a powerful dunk.
- Caleb Foster takes the ball in on Sebastian Wilkins and gives him a pretty good education. You may also notice that Foster is quite a bit stronger now.
- Next play up, Foster tries to drive on Drew Scharnowski, and as noted previously, no one really wants to contest him too much. Watch how Foster jumps away from him. He still gets his shot blocked. Also, watch how quickly Scharnowski gets the outlet pass going.
- Dame Sarr gets a nice alley-oop pass to Williams for an easy dunk.
- After that, Foster gets off a three-point shot. You’ll notice again a certain physical confidence he has. He’s not in Scharnowski’s class, but Foster is much, much stronger.
- Then watch John Blackwell give Williams a brief tutorial on slipping past bigger defenders.
- Then Boumtje Boumtje lines up for a three – net!
- Last year, Sarr had trouble finishing around the basket. At one point, we counted eight straight layups he missed. Well, watch as he blows by freshman Boumtje Boumtje, then slips under Foster for a very nice layup. He couldn’t have done that last season.
- Foster tries to return the favor, but Sarr says get it out of here!
- Freshman Bryson Howard slips one past Deron Rippey, before Rippey hits an outside shot in his face.
- Then Cayden Boozer slips one past Howard for a layup. Sweet! Then he lines up a three and nails that, too.
There are two basic themes here: very intense competition, and older players who have a few things to teach the kids.
