Just a few days after Liverpool appeared to have made one of the biggest statements of the transfer window, the move is coming closer to fruition as Paris Saint-Germain star Bradley Barcola is expected to under his medical exam.
If all goes well with the medical tests, Barcola would sign his name on the dotted line for Liverpool according to David Ornstein of The Athletic. Liverpool has reportedly reached a complete agreement with Paris Saint-Germain to sign Bradley Barcola in a deal worth €124 million
in a base fee with the capability to go up to €145 million if bonueses and incentives kick in.
The 23-year-old France international is now expected to undergo his medical within the next 24 hours before completing a move to Anfield. Barcola is also poised to sign a five-year contract with Liverpool.
It is a remarkable investment in a player who has continued to develop into one of European football’s most dangerous young wingers. His pace, directness and ability to create opportunities in one-on-one situations have made him a major attacking threat, and Liverpool clearly believe he can take another significant step forward on Merseyside.
For Paris Saint-Germain, losing Barcola represents a major change to their attacking options, but the financial return is enormous. For Liverpool, however, this is about more than simply adding another winger. The club is investing heavily in a player entering his prime years and seemingly sees Barcola as someone capable of becoming a centerpiece of its attack for years to come.
Just a year ago, Liverpool went crazy in the transfer window and essentially struck out when it came to melded all of that new talent together. Will another big swing work?
