Yurcak Field, or rather the soccer stadium itself, will change its name after the Rutgers board of Governors held a vote on Thursday morning to change the name of the soccer stadium itself. Longtime corporate sponsor of the Scarlet Knights, RWJ Barnabas Health, has entered into another deal with the university, with the school officially rebranding the soccer stadium from its technical name, “The Soccer Stadium at Yurcak Field,” to RWJBarnabas Health Stadium at Yurcak Field.
This is not the first
time that RWJ Barnabas Health and Rutgers have entered into a naming rights deal, as the healthcare company also has its name on the Athletic Performance Center, the multi-sport training facility adjacent to Jersey Mike’s Arena.
Yurcak Field has a storied history, being the home of the Lacrosse programs for a while before they moved into the football stadium, and being the home of both soccer programs. In addition, it was also the home of the Gotham FC NWSL franchise from 2009–2011 and 2013–2019, before they moved into the formerly known Red Bull Arena.
Since Yurcak Field opened its doors in 1994, it has played host to two men’s soccer conference championship teams and a bunch of different squads that made it to the NCAA tournament, representing both men’s and women’s soccer.
Rutgers is no stranger to making naming rights deals such as this one, as both their football stadium and basketball arena have had their naming rights sold to various companies.
