Interesting Nolan Smith news, as the second-year Tennessee State coach, along with several other coaches, including the football coach, women’s basketball, softball, track and field, and volleyball coaches, have sent a letter to the university president, expressing no confidence in A.D. Dr. Mikki Allen.
Some of their concerns include the following:
- Inconsistent communication and a lack of transparency.
- Uneven allocation of resources among programs.
- Lack of a clear departmental vision and accountability structure.
- Delayed decision-making affecting staffing and budgeting.
- Declining morale within the department.
- Concerns about equity and support across athletic programs.
- Insufficient collaboration between administrators and coaching staffs.
This is such a radical move. We’re not sure we’ve ever seen this before. It’s a good thing for all of the coaches that they did this together, because a)
they have to be taken seriously, and b) it lessens the chance of retaliation.
That said, they’d better all have good seasons, because if you take a swing at the boss and miss, eventually, he or she will swing back.
