The Brooklyn Nets have added to their roster. This time, it’s not a guard. Mo Wagner signed a two-year, $19 million deal to join the team this morning, first reported by Mike Scott of HoopsHype.
The deal includes a second-year mutual option. Under this agreement, either Wager or the Nets can opt-in to the deal, trigger the second year and fully guarantee the remaining $9 million. If both sides opt-out, he’s a free agent again this summer. The Nets also included this option in their deal with Keon
Ellis, reported last night.
Wagner, a bruising eight-year NBA veteran, promises to bring some much needed physicality to this young Nets squad. This deal will gets paid nearly double his salary from last season after spending six seasons with the Orlando Magic. There, he averaged 6.9 points and 3.2 rebounds per game during his final season, where he appeared in 36 games after recovering from an ACL tear the season prior.
Before the 2018 NBA Draft, Wagner, or at least those in his inner circle, seemed to have an affinity for the Nets. During his championship run at the collegiate level with the Michigan Wolverines, his family arrived at the Big 10 Tournament at Madison Square Garden wearing Brooklyn gear. He also said he roots for the Nets over the Knicks during a big board Q&A during the tournament.
