Marc-Andre ter Stegen is reportedly closing in on a loan move to Girona after losing his place in the starting XI at Barcelona to Joan Garcia.
The goalkeeper is thought to be close to an agreement with
Michel’s side to move on loan for the rest of the 2025-26 campaign.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Ter Stegen is currently awaiting permission from Barcelona to travel to Girona and seal the deal. The suggestion is it could even be confirmed before Barca’s next game against Real Sociedad.
One difficulty in agreeing the transfer has been how to handle Ter Stegen’s salary. That now seems to have been resolved, with MD reporting that Barcelona have agreed to pay 90% of his wages while he’s at Girona.
Ter Stegen is moving on in a bid to play regularly and keep his place as Germany’s No.1 for World Cup 2026. It’s thought he chose Girona as he wanted to stay close to his young children.
