Bayern Munich has been very vocal in hammering the officiating crew that presided over the team’s 1-1 draw with Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday.
By issuing two red cards and calling off three total goals (two for Bayern Munich), referee Christian Dingert put himself firmly in the crosshairs of Bayern Munich’s executive group. Noted pundit Didi Hamann took great exception to Bayern Munich’s complaints.
“That’s not worthy of a world-class club. To react like that after a match in which the referee did a good
job,” Hamann said during an appearance on Sky90 (as captured by Goal). “Against Hoffenheim, that decided the match because it happened after ten minutes. They say nothing about that in their statement. And a world-class club lodges a protest against a yellow-red card where the player is trying to win a penalty.”
Hamann likely echoes how many non-Bayern Munich fans feel, but several calls in that game were extremely questionable. Complaints or not, the standard for game officials needs to be higher.
