Roster management is a tricky business, and Howie Roseman is one of the best. That doesn’t mean that everything works out for the Eagles’ GM, however.
As he and his staff start to build the team’s 16-man practice squad, they have to do so without four of the players they cut ahead of Sunday’s deadline who were claimed on the waiver wire:
OT Cameron Williams – Falcons
OT Myles Hinton – Bengals
DB Kapena Gushiken – Colts
TE Cameron Latu – Patriots
Reports earlier in the day suggested that the Eagles planned
to sign OT John Ojukwo if he cleared waivers — which he did — suggesting that the team expected guys like Williams and Hinton to no longer be options.
Losing Latu to the Patriots was also probably not a huge surprise, and given that the Eagles kept four tight ends on the 53-man roster, it wasn’t likely they were bringing him back, anyway.
Gushiken was someone that was showing up better in preseason games than in training camp practices, but with his special teams ability, was a bubble guy. It’s always nice to have extra DB depth, but losing him to the Colts probably doesn’t affect the Eagles practice squad plans much, if at all.
