Pittsburgh Steelers wideout DK Metcalf is coming off a down year, by his standards. The Steelers traded for the two-time Pro Bowler last March and then immediately signed him to a four-year extension before he put up just 59 catches, 850 yards, and six touchdowns. Considering that he currently is the seventh-highest paid wide receiver in the NFL, that’s not the return on investment Pittsburgh was hoping for in Year One.
In Year Two, Metcalf needs to have a big year and be a bigger part of the Steelers’
offense – something Aaron Rodgers says needs to be a priority,
“We gotta get the ball to DK,” Rodgers said via Mark Kaboly. “He’s our No. 1 for a reason.”
Metcalf’s best season came in 2020, when he put up 1.303 yards and 10 touchdowns. Wide receivers tend to do well in head coach Mike McCarthy’s system. Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb posted three consecutive 1,100 yard seasons from 2022-24, including a 135 catch, 1,749 yard season in 2023.
When taking into account all of the talent the Steelers added this offseason, that should open up more opportunities for Metcalf in the passing game, as defenses won’t be able to simply hone in on No. 4.
