Earlier this week, it was reported that Norris was hospitalized in Hawaii, though no other details were provided regarding his health.
Norris was an influential figure in the growth of martial arts in North America both as a competitor and a popular film and television actor. He famously starred opposite fellow legend Bruce Lee in the 1972 film The Way of the Dragon and headlined numerous action features in an on-screen career spanning six decades.
The Walker, Texas Ranger star discovered newfound relevance in the early 2000s as he became the subject of internet memes that touted his legendary feats, such as the classic, “When Chuck Norris does a push-up, he doesn’t push himself up, he pushes the world down.”
In a similar vein, several MMA fighters took to social media Friday to pay their respects to Norris, with Matt Brown writing, “Chuck was disappointed with martial arts instructors in heaven so he decided it’s time to go there and show them what’s up! RIP to the legend though all love and respect,” and Bo Nickal writing, “RIP to the grim reaper for having to meet Chuck Norris.”

Blachowicz: My Hero since childhood. My Hero forever. That’s how I’ll always see you. Legend
