Barcelona midfielder Pedri spoke about the importance of his team’s win over Girona after a late goal from Ronald Araujo saw the hosts take home all three points.
Pedri had put Barcelona into the lead but
a spectacular effort from Axel Witsel levelled things up. The game looked to be heading for a draw until Araujo popped up with a late win to snatch victory.
Barca were far from convincing against Girona, and Pedri admitted he wasn’t happy with their performance.
“I’m not happy with the performance, much less with the team’s performance,” he told the media.
“We have to improve a lot of things, especially our pressing. We haven’t been good. We’ve already had two games in which I don’t think we’ve been good. We have to improve that pressing, above all, and with the ball, give it more rhythm, create more chances. I think we have a lot of room for improvement. We have to analyze it with the manager during the week and improve it for the next game.
“When you press poorly and have your line so high, it’s very easy for the opponent to create chances.
“With a pass into space when you’re not under pressure, they can be left alone in front of the goalkeeper. I think we also have to improve with the ball, because I don’t think we’re as sharp as we were last season. The good thing is that we’re improving and that today we took the three points.”
Barcelona now switch focus to the Champions League and a home game against Olympiakos on Tuesday.
