It’s been an easy path for us so far in the League Cup, as we’ve reached the final four by playing two games against third division clubs (Lincoln City and Cardiff City) and one against the worst team in the Premier League (Wolverhampton Wanderers). However, things are about to get significantly more difficult now.
In the semifinals, we will be facing either Arsenal or Crystal Palace, and we’re going to have to get the job done over two legs as well. The other semifinal will feature Newcastle United
against Manchester City.
Arsenal and Palace were supposed to play their quarterfinal this week as well, but that game was pushed back at the last minute to next week due to Palace’s fixture congestion: they have a Europa Conference League match this Thursday. So that’s unfortunate for any fans who may have been wanting to go to the game, but nice to see the FA and the Football League take player welfare into account for once.
The League Cup semifinals will take place over two legs at Wembley. The first leg will be played week of January 12, with the second leg to follow three weeks later, the week of February 2.
