The New England Patriots have parted ways with a member of their linebacker group.
Otis Reese, who spent parts of the 2025 season on New England’s practice squad, has been released by the team. Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston was first to report the transaction.
Reese, 28, originally arrived in Foxborough last November and remained on the Patriots’ developmental roster the rest of the season. Despite not seeing any game day elevations, he was re-signed via a futures contract after the Super Bowl.
Prior
to moving to New England, the 6-foot-3, 228-pounderr spent time with the Titans and Bills. He originally entered the NFL as a rookie free agent out of Ole Miss in 2023, and during his first two seasons in Tennessee appeared in 20 games. Mostly a special teamer who also has one interception to his name, he left the club in August 2025 before reuniting with his former head coach, Mike Vrabel, via a brief stint in Buffalo.
With Reese off the roster, the Patriots’ off-ball linebacker group is now eight players deep. Projected starters Robert Spillane and Christian Elliss are joined by veteran backups K.J. Britt, Chad Muma and Amari Gainer, as well as rookies Namdi Obiazor, Khalil Jacobs and Riley Wilson.
The Patriots will hold their sixth practice of training camp, and second consecutive in full pads, on Friday at 10:15 a.m. ET.
