The Washington Commanders are 1-3 after their international loss to the Indianapolis Colts. They were in good shape until Marcus Mariota went down with another MCL injury. He is likely to miss time, and he was replaced in today’s game by 7th-round rookie Athan Kaliakmanis who had an up-and-down game. The Commanders season has been eerily similar to last season’s injury-filled mess, and is becoming unsustainable to winning.
The good news is that Jayden Daniels is expected to be back next week, and
will be a full participant in practice all week. If he returns, this will be his first game since dislocating his left elbow in Week 2, and he will now be wearing a bulkier brace than the one he wore when he originally injured it last season.
This game will be critical if Washington wants any chance of salvaging the season. The Commanders are 0-2 in the NFC East after start the season with road losses to the Eagles and Cowboys. They hosting the 3-1 New York Giants on Sunday, and will be facing backup QB Jameis Winston after Jaxson Dart was lost for the season with a knee injury. The Giants currently sit in first place, and the Commanders are sitting in the basement.
