Fermin Lopez has revealed how Lamine Yamal had a surprise planned for him during the World Cup after the Barcelona star was forced to miss the competition due to injury.
There was heartbreak for Fermin ahead of the tournament as he sustained a fractured metatarsal that ruled him out of the Spain squad.
Lopez says he kept in touch with his Barca team-mates during the World Cup and found that Yamal had planned a little gesture.
“Obviously, they’re my teammates at the club, and we talked often,” he told
Mundo Deportivo.
“I probably spoke more with Lamine, and I know that one day, during a match, he had a jersey ready for me in case he scored, but he couldn’t. The gesture is there, the photographer told me about it, and it’s a very nice touch that unfortunately didn’t come to fruition.”
Lopez also spoke about his relationship with Yamal and how the two combine so well together for Barca.
“He’s a friend, and I try to make things easier for him and take advantage of the fact that he draws a lot of players in, and I try to exploit the spaces,” he explained.
“I try to give him a lot of passes, to make him feel comfortable, and I think we understand each other very well.”
Fermin and Yamal are currently on international duty with Spain and preparing to face England in the Nations League on Saturday.
