Now that Bayern Munich have officially qualified for the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals, conversation is already shifting to the upcoming clash against Real Madrid next month. Vincent Kompany, who watched his former team Manchester City get eviscerated in the Round of 16, expects a high level contest in the UCL final 8.
“Everything is big at both clubs,” said the Belgian (via @iMiaSanMia). “It’s not important who’s the better team right now. The history of both clubs, the talent on the pitch,
that’s special. We expect an absolute top game. I hope even the neutrals will enjoy it.”
“And of course in the end we want to win and advance,” he added. If the coach’s words reflect the opinion of the squad, then it seems that FC Bayern is aware that this Madrid game is anything but guaranteed. Man City are not a bad team, but Pep Guardiola made a few tiny mistakes which resulted in his side getting blown apart at the Bernabeu.
Given that the first leg will be at the Bernabeu, Kompany’s first task will be to avoid the fate of mentor.
