The New York Giants 2026 training camp is almost here.
The Giants are set at several positions, like quarterback and linebacker. However, the arrival of John Harbaugh means that the Giants done work in tinkering with their roster to make it more competitive. There are also a number of players getting clean slates and opportunities to compete for starting jobs.
In other words, this year might have more and more lively camp battles than we’ve seen in recent years from the Giants.
So with that in mind,
we want to know which camp battles you’re most interested in seeing this year?
Cornerback – The headline here is free agent acquisition (and 2021 first-round pick) Greg Newsome II trying to hold off 2023 first-round pick Deonte Banks. Newsome entered the spring as the starter, however Banks has seemingly taken to the new scheme and coaching well. He’s earned more first team snaps over the course of OTA’s and minicamp, and reportedly looked good in the process. 2026 second-round pick Colton Hood is waiting in the wings as well, and could leapfrog both players if they stumble in camp.
Defensive line – The Giants need to find three new starters on their defensive line following the departures of Dexter Lawrence and Rakeem Nunez-Roches, as well as the injury to Roy Robertson-Harris. One is expected to be veteran nose tackle D.J. Reader, but who will start next to him? 2025 third-round pick Darius Alexander has the inside track, as does veteran Shelby Harris. We haven’t seen Sam Roberts yet this off-season, but he was also one of the Giants’ first free agent signings. Likewise, rookie Bobby Jamison-Travis has the chance to surprise and be a primary rotational player. This position is wide open.
Wide receiver – Another position in a state of flux. The Giants not only need to replace Wan’Dale Robinson, but also weather the period until Malik Nabers is able to return to the field. The Giants have 14 receivers on their 90-man roster, with a heady mix of young players like Malachi Fields and Calvin Austin III, big-name veterans in Odell Beckham jr. and Ju-Ju Smith-Schuster, and blue collar vets looking to reestablish their worth, like Darius Slayton, Darnell Mooney, and Isaiah Hodgins. The Giants’ first priority is building around around Jaxson Dart, so how will they construct their receiver room?
Kicker – The Giants kicker position has been a sore spot for years now. The Giants have struggled to field a consistent kicking game thanks to the injuries suffered by Graham Gano and poor planning behind him. We thought the position was solved with the signing of veteran kicker Jason Sanders, but he was a surprise cut during the spring. Instead, the kicker competition is seemingly down to three-game veteran Ben Sauls and undrafted rookie Dominic Zvada. Teams typically like a their specialists to be proven with track records of consistency. The fact that John Harbaugh’s Giants are deciding between two inexperienced options is one of the biggest surprises of the offseason.
