Following the news of Olekansdr Usyk relinquishing his heavyweight titles, which elevated Agit Kabayel as the WBC’s new heavyweight champion, Kabayel tells Sky Sports that he’s ready and willing to defend his new strap against the biggest and best in the division. Kabayel is looking to stage his next appearance this fall, hopefully September or October, and insists he isn’t hesitating to answer the call for a tough matchup.
In that regard, Kabayel immediately calls out names suck as Tyson Fury and
Anthony Joshua as foes he’d be willing to face.
“For me it’s no problem, I’ll fight with everyone. You can call me. My phone is here, please call me, I’ll fight with everyone,” Kabayel said. “Tyson Fury, Anthony Joshua, when you think you have a chance to be a three-time world champion, let’s do it. Kabayel will wait for you.”
Of course at the moment Fury and Joshua are being set up for a fall fight against one another, with the exact particulars still to be decided, so although Kabayel may be willing, unless that completely falls apart it would seem unlikely for him to secure either one of them as opponents.
That would presumably leave people like Moses Itauma, Daniel Dubois, and Fabio Wardley in the cards. It’s been mentioned many times that Itauma would love a chance at a world title before the year is out, and that’s an idea Kabayel is amendable to should Itauma get past Hrgovic.
“No problem. The winner of that fight versus Hrgovic, why not?” Kabayel declared. “And also we can make a fight with Daniel [Dubois, the WBO champion] or Fabio Wardley. Anyone. For me it’s no problem, I’ll fight anyone.”
Kabayel, 33, is most recently coming off of a stoppage win over Damian Knyba this past January, and it’s clear he’s anxious to get back in action.
