Raúl Asencio was a bit part of Real Madrid’s emphatic 5–1 victory over Real Betis with a moment he’ll remember for a long time — a second-half header in front of the Santiago Bernabéu faithful. Speaking
to Real Madrid TV after the match, the academy defender reflected on the goal, the emotion of the night, and what the result means heading into a decisive stretch of the season.
“It had been a long time since I scored a goal, and doing it in front of the fans was a really special feeling,” Asencio said. “I was lucky enough to receive a great cross from Rodrygo and I took advantage of it to score my first goal. I hope there will be many more to come in front of our fans.”
Beyond the football, Asencio revealed that the goal carried a deeper personal meaning. The defender dedicated it to Elías, a young supporter from the Canary Islands who is currently living in Madrid and battling leukemia.
“There was a young man who came today — he’s currently living in Madrid, but he’s from the Canary Islands; his name is Elías,” Asencio explained. “He has leukemia and has been fighting the disease for a long time. It was wonderful that I was able to score the goal on the very day he came. It was only right to dedicate it to him.”
Asencio added that the moment was as meaningful for him as it was for the young fan.
“I’m sure he enjoyed it immensely, and we’ll have to invite him many more times,” he said with a smile.
The defender also looked ahead to what lies next for Real Madrid, stressing the importance of building momentum after such a commanding performance.
“It was important to have a good feeling today to face what’s coming,” Asencio said. “In the end, it’s an important competition for us and against great rivals. We’re going there with all the enthusiasm in the world. Leaving the Bernabéu with these feelings gives us an extra boost of energy.”
