The Utah Jazz announced they have signed Mohamed Wague.
This makes sense given Nurkic’s injury and the Jazz’s need for center depth.
Some notes from Jazz PR:
In his senior season at Oklahoma, he averaged 6.9 points on 60 percent shooting, 6.8 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks in 22.4 minutes per game. They mention that he had 55 total blocks, good for fourth in the SEC in 2025-26. Wague also represented Mali’s men’s senior national
team at the 2025 FIBA AfroBasket, playing in five games and helping the team capture a silver medal.
Wague is an athletic 6’10” center with a 7’4” wingspan. He’s a rim-running big that shows good shot-blocking potential. He’s a good athlete and worth investing in to see if he can develop his game and be an impact defender at the highest level.
These are the types of signings the Jazz should keep making throughout the season and in the offseason. Athletic bigs matter, and there’s no telling when they’ll become impact players. And since the center position is one of the more interchangeable positions, it makes sense to invest in developmental prospects unless you have an All-Star-caliber player.
