There are five matchdays to go and we are still in September, but that hasn’t stopped the KC Current from clinching their first ever NWSL Shield with a 2-0 win over the Seattle Reign.
In front of their supporters and sold-out crowd at CPKC stadium, the Kansas City Current made history by becoming the fastest club to win the shield. The previous record was four matches remaining by Seattle (2014), North Carolina (2018) and Portland (2021).
Their dominance (17-2-2) has been apparent all season, but they’ve
remained atop the table since Week 6 and are unbeaten in their last 14 regular season matches.
They are the seventh different Shield winner in the NWSL’s 13-year history.
The only question remaining: will they complete the double and be named NWSL Champions too?
