After another nailbiting win over the weekend, UConn men’s basketball remains at No. 2 in the AP Top 25. The 19-1 Huskies are coming off of an overtime win in Hartford over Villanova after having their first bye of the Big East season during the week and have won 15 straight games.
For the first time since Seton Hall was ranked two weeks ago, there is another Big East school joining UConn in the Top 25. St. John’s makes its return to the poll at No. 25 after a come-from-behind win at Xavier on Saturday
for its sixth straight victory. The 15-5 Red Storm were as high as fifth in the country earlier this year, but haven’t been ranked since before Christmas. Villanova received two votes, the only other Big East school to get any.
Arizona, UConn’s only loss of the season, remains at No. 1 after defeating West Virginia over the weekend. The Huskies have four wins this season against teams currently ranked in the poll in No. 9 Illinois, No. 13 BYU, No. 14 Kansas, and No. 19 Florida.
The Huskies return to action this week on Tuesday, as UConn hosts Providence in Storrs for a rematch of their thrilling overtime clash earlier this month. Then on Saturday the Huskies travel to Omaha to take on Creighton at the CHI Health Center.
Looking at NET rating, UConn continues to remain at No. 8 despite the long winning streak. The Huskies are one of 10 teams in the country with at least five Quad One victories this season. Looking ahead to this next week, Providence, No. 95 in NET, is considered a Quad Three opportunity while on the road at Creighton, No. 61 in NET, will be a Quad One game. In terms of KenPom, UConn ranks No. 10 overall being No. 38 in offensive efficiency and No. 4 in defensive efficiency.
In other Big East news, UConn’s Solo Ball was named to the Big East honor roll after his 24 point performance in the overtime win on Saturday.
