The Pittsburgh Steelers offense came alive in their 30-27 win over the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 3. Pittsburgh’s offense racked up 411 yards as their offense finally looks to be on track, and they head into Week 4 with a 2-1 record.
As always, here is this weeks stock report after the Steelers thrilling victory.
Stock Up
Offensive Line
The Steelers shifted around their offensive line today, giving rookie first rounder Max Iheanachor the nod at right tackle, and giving veteran Brock Hoffman the start at right guard. Things
looked much better for the Steelers offensively today, as they totaled 430 yards of total offense. The running game was much improved, and despite a few drops from the receivers, Rodgers threw for three touchdowns. All of that starts with the revamped offensive line, that could very well be the key to unlocking the Steelers offense.
WR Ben Skrownek
What a game for Pittsburgh’s do-it-all guy. Skrownek doesn’t get many reps as a receiver, but made the most of his time on the field in the first quarter as he hauled in a 22-yard touchdown from Aaron Rodgers. Skrownek also recovered a muffed punt in the fourth quarter, allowing the Steelers to tie the game at 27. It was a huge day for the special teams ace who continues to make an impact wherever he is needed.
RB Jaylen Warren
Jaylen Warren fully deserves to be the Steelers bell cow back moving forward. With fellow running back Rico Dowdle inactive, it was Warren’s first chance this season to get the majority of the touches. It’s safe to say he made the most of his opportunity. Warren turned 17 carries into 175 yards, good for 7.5 yards per carry. Warren also added 49 yards on three catches. The back was the heart and soul of the Steelers offense today, and was a large part of the offense’s success today.
DT Derrick Harmon
Harmon made the play of the day with the strip sack of Joe Burrow, as Sebastian Joseph-Day recovered. The bull rush of Harmon moved the Steelers to 2-1 on the season. The defensive lineman continues to make strides in his second season.
Stock Down
WR Roman Wilson
Wilson’s day started strong, as he caught two balls on the team’s opening drive. However, Wilson had a ball bounce off his hands that led to an interception in the second quarter. After that, it was rookie second round pick Germie Bernard who was on the field for the majority of the second half. I thought I was going to be putting Wilson in the “stock up” category today, but the inconsistencies continue to haunt Wilson and cost him opportunities in the Steelers offense.
Offensive Execution
If you are going to complain about the Steelers offense at all today, you can reasonably be disappointed in how many times they were forced to use timeouts because they were simply not ready to snap the ball in time. The CBS broadcast even commented on how unusual it is for people who have worked together for so long like Rodgers and McCarthy to have so many problems snapping the ball in time. Pittsburgh used all three of their timeouts in the first half within the first 22 minutes of game time due to problems either getting the play in or set. Although it was not as prevalent in the second half, the Steelers were forced to use at least one timeout because of similar issues. Today was a great step forward for the offense, but small things like snapping the ball in time and not wasting timeouts can certainly be cleaned up.
