Liverpool center-back Ibrahima Konaté has found himself at the center of speculation about a possible move to Real Madrid, and his international teammate Kylian Mbappé has apparently added some humor to the situation.
Speaking to Telefoot while away with the French national team, Konaté revealed that Mbappé isn’t letting him forget the rumors:
“He’s calling me every two hours,” Konaté joked.
The 26-year-old
defender, whose contract with Liverpool runs out at the end of this season, has been repeatedly linked with Madrid. However, Liverpool are reportedly determined to secure his long-term future. Konaté added that he doesn’t speak Spanish, hinting that any move to LaLiga would come with a learning curve.
So far this campaign, Konaté has started all three of Liverpool’s Premier League matches, with the reigning champions taking maximum points from those games.
Mbappé, meanwhile, spoke about his former Paris Saint-Germain teammates Ousmane Dembélé and Achraf Hakimi in the context of the Ballon d’Or.
*”Does he deserve it?” Mbappé said about Dembélé. “For me, yes. I hope he wins it. I have supported him from the beginning.
“I also hope that Achraf will finish high, it would be good for defenders. He has had an historical season.”*
